Sir William Alexander Bustamante
Sir William Alexander Bustamante was born William
Alexander Clarke to an Irish Roman Catholic planter, Robert
Constantine Clarke, and wife Mary née Wilson, who was of
mixed race.
Bustamante served as independent Jamaica’s first Prime
Minister. In 1969, he was proclaimed a 'National Hero of
Jamaica', along with Norman Manley, Marcus Garvey, Paul
Bogle and George William Gordon.
